How to Fix Microphone Static, Noise, & Low Volume

Clear audio is essential. If your friends complain about static or they can't hear you, try these fixes.

mic Test Your Microphone

Check if the static is audible in our recording tool. Launch Microphone Test

Fix 1: Check Levels & Boost

Sometimes the microphone is just set too quiet or too loud (causing clipping).

  • Open Sound Settings → More sound settings → Recording tab.
  • Right-click your mic → Properties → Levels.
  • Set Microphone to 80-100. If it's too quiet, increase "Microphone Boost" slightly (+10dB).

Fix 2: Disable Audio Enhancements

Windows or driver processing can cause robotic voices or static.

  • Go to Mic Properties → Advanced tab.
  • Uncheck "Enable audio enhancements" or check "Disable all sound effects".

Fix 3: Ground Loops (Buzzing)

A constant 50Hz/60Hz hum usually means a grounding issue.

  • Try plugging your microphone into the back panel of your PC (directly to motherboard) instead of the front case jack.
  • If using a laptop, try unplugging the power charger to see if the noise stops.
